McKenna Troy Voice is

San Francisco’s vocal studio for singers of all levels who value collaboration, authentic performance practice & vocology-centered teaching methods.

Evidence-Based + Industry Informed

Anyone can call themselves a voice teacher- it’s important to be discerning about picking someone who has the right qualifications, especially for what you want to learn. I am very transparent about my training level and continuing education involvement. Staying at the forefront of voice science (an actively developing field) and active involvement in the voice/performing community are essential parts of my practice. If you have any further questions about my experience, do not hesitate to ask.

Artistic Excellence through Collaboration & Community

At the center of my work is a belief that artistic excellence is inseparable from vulnerability. But how do we grow our capacity to be vulnerable artists? By practicing collaboration in a community we feel we belong in.

I’ve been teaching for 5 years, and I’ve always found that my students grow the most through collaboration and other group singing opportunities. That's why my studio offers a variety of group class and performance opportunities including:

  1. Quarterly Student Recitals / Performances

  2. Biweekly Group Class Offerings

  3. Interactive Community Newsletter

  4. Free Monthly Studio Events

  5. Option to participate in NATS Competitions

  6. Singing Collaboration Matchmaking

  • Student Testimonials

“As an adult student with singing anxiety, Mckenna created a wonderfully patient and nonjudgmental space. She also adapted her teaching to the way that I conceptualize and mechanize my own voice. Beyond her immediate bedside manner and dynamic pedagogy, she is a kind and open person, who remembers little details about you… I would (and have) recommend(ed) her to any adult student.” - Lucas L. // Adult Student

  • Student Testimonials

“McKenna is such a friendly and bright singing teacher! She is extremely skillful at what she does, and she has helped me learn a lot about my voice and how to use it in different types of songs. I especially enjoy how McKenna has taught me how to feel where my voice is coming from within different parts of my body. I am very grateful to get to learn from McKenna!” -Kya S. // Adult Student

  • Student Testimonials

“I've been working with McKenna for six months and she's been excellent! At a technical level she's helped me access a higher register in my voice without any of the strain/pain I used to run into there, explore different timbres, and improve my ability to sustain long notes and phrases. On an interpersonal level, she's incredibly welcoming and supportive, pushing me to try new things in a way that feels kind and safe, and finding new ways to explain things if the first time doesn't make sense to me (since different metaphors/methods work for different people). I definitely recommend working with McKenna!” - Danny W. // Adult Student

Enrollment Options

I value very transparent, simple pricing so you can easily decide what is right for you and your family.

My private lesson rates are precharged monthly and proportional to $82.50/ 45min lesson (+ weekly homework & resources) in my home studio in the Sunset and $93/45min lesson (+ weekly homework & resources) at my out of studio location in Noe Valley.

With every lesson, you receive a specific practice plan that’s aligned with your availability / goals, a 10% discount on group classes, 2 reschedules per semester, access to a variety of music practice software/games and free community building studio events.

  • Recommended for kids / young adults with little to no musical experience. Students will typically take ~ 6 months of combo lessons to learn basic music theory and piano before switching to just voice lessons.

  • Recommended for students 11+ and adults. Lessons include ~ 15 minutes of exercises and technique work, ~ 25 minutes of repertoire work and 2-5 minutes of discussion to reflect on and clarify new learnings. Pricing is based on months with 4 weeks of lessons.

60min lessons are popular for students who enjoy doing deeper dives into the songs they’re working on while having time for in depth technique work as well. I recommend starting with 45min lessons to see if 60min is a good fit.

  • Recommended option for children 6 - 10 years old, but open to all students. Lessons include ~ 10 minutes of exercises and technique work (taught though games for younger children), ~ 15 minutes of repertoire work and 2-5 minutes of discussion to reflect on and clarify new concepts.

  • For students who are unable to commit to weekly or biweekly lessons, this allows students to sign up for any open lesson slots from cancellations, extra availability, etc. from the day before to up to two weeks in advance.
