Meet McKenna

Hi and welcome! My name is McKenna. I’m a San Francisco based private voice instructor and professional singer with a music degree cum laude in Voice & Opera from Northwestern University.

I have > 4 years of experience teaching students k-adult and am a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing. I have worked as a director, community choir leader, and voice pedagogy researcher as well as studied singing and arts administration under international mentorship in Italy and Austria. Community is essential for a successful arts education, so I run my studio like a family. Everyone is valued, heard, and encouraged to be their best.

  • As an adult student with singing anxiety, Mckenna created a wonderfully patient and nonjudgmental space. She also adapted her teaching to the way that I conceptualize and mechanize my own voice. Beyond her immediate bedside manner and dynamic pedagogy, she is a kind and open person, who remembers little details about you (in the non-creepy way). I would (and have) recommend(ed) her to any adult student.

  • “McKenna is such a friendly and bright singing teacher! She is extremely skillful at what she does, and she has helped me learn a lot about my voice and how to use it in different types of songs. I especially enjoy how McKenna has taught me how to feel where my voice is coming from within different parts of my body. I am very grateful to get to learn from McKenna!

    - Kya S. (Adult Student)

  • I've been working with McKenna for six months and she's been excellent! At a technical level she's helped me access a higher register in my voice without any of the strain/pain I used to run into there, explore different timbres, and improve my ability to sustain long notes and phrases. On an interpersonal level, she's incredibly welcoming and supportive, pushing me to try new things in a way that feels kind and safe, and finding new ways to explain things if the first time doesn't make sense to me (since different metaphors/methods work for different people). I definitely recommend working with McKenna!

Private Lesson Options

  • Recommended for kids / young adults with no musical experience. Students will typically take ~ 6 months of combo lessons to learn basic music theory and piano before switching to just voice lessons. 60min ($104) / 75min ($130)/ lesson prepaid monthly.

  • Recommended for students 11+ and adults. Lessons include ~ 15 minutes of exercises and technique work, ~ 25 minutes of repertoire work and 2-5 minutes of discussion to reflect on and clarify new learnings. $78/lesson prepaid monthly.

60min lessons are popular for students who enjoy doing deeper dives into the songs they’re working on while having time for in depth technique work as well. I recommend starting with 45min lessons to see if 60min is a good fit.

  • Recommended option for children 6 - 10 years old, but open to all students. Lessons include ~ 10 minutes of exercises and technique work (taught though games for younger children), ~ 15 minutes of repertoire work and 2-5 minutes of discussion to reflect on and clarify new concepts. $55/lesson prepaid monthly.
